Running events at Mt Buller set to challenge participants with plenty of altitude
04 Feb 2015

Mt Buller has an exciting calendar of running events this summer season, with three events coming up that will test runners’ strength, stamina and endurance. With clean mountain air, little traffic, inspiring views as well as kilometres road and off-road trails ideal for running, Mt Buller is set to become a must-do destination for all running disciplines. Add in the challenge of altitude up to 1805m and the Resort becomes a whole new challenge for runners.

Following on from the success of the Mirabella Mountain event in November, the summer of running continues with the 7 Peaks Run Weekend on 13-15 February, the Mt Buller Mountain Running Festival on 28-29 March and the Mountain High Fun Run on 4 April (Easter Saturday). First on the calendar is the inaugural 7 Peaks Run Weekend, a group trip by the Melbourne Trail Runners with for a weekend of running on Mt Buller's sensational trail network. Participants can spend the weekend with like-minded people and explore the challenge of running in the mountains.

Next is the Mt Buller Mountain Running Festival, also incorporating the Mt Buller Skyrun, on 28-29 March. Mt Buller’s biggest running event to date, the Festival is a weekend full of events designed to appeal to all types of participants utilising mountain tracks and fire roads. The weekend also incorporates the Mt Buller Sky Run, which offers three distance options – 22km, 36km or 45km – and takes in the superb scenery of the Delatite River, the historic Klingsporn Bridle Track, Mt Buller, Mt Stirling and the historic Craig's Hut.

Easter will see the annual Mountain High Fun Run hit Mt Buller, a popular event attracting families, joggers and serious competitors. Happening this year on Saturday 4 April, the Mountain High Fun Run features three course options: the leisurely 3km Village Views, a 6km Summit Sizzler and the challenging 9km Buller Breaker course that encompasses some of the best scenery and most demanding tracks that Mt Buller has to offer, including the gruelling climb to the summit fire hut which will see runners climb 200 vertical metres from the Village. With an expected field of over 300 runners of all levels, the Mountain High Fun Run sees a number of prizes up for grabs, and proceeds are donated to the Mansfield District Hospital.
