The Australian team for the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics has been selected and is the largest on record with 56 athletes and the potential to grow to 59.
It's a happy day for Mt Buller and Australia as we celebrate the appointment of Mt Buller local Anton Grimus, along with 10 more Mt Buller athletes including Alex ‘Chumpy' Pullin, Lydia Lassila and Katya Crema, onto the Australian Winter Olympic team.
The Mt Buller athletes will represent the country in Sochi Russia next month by competing in disciplines such as ski cross, boarder cross, moguls, aerials and many more at the Winter Olympic Games.
Anton Grimus grew up on Mt Buller where his parents, Hans and Lotte Grimus own and operate the iconic Hotel Pension Grimus. With skiing in his blood, the support of his family and the snow at the front doorstep of their home, it was inevitable that Anton would become a world success. Anton has competed in ski cross events all around the world since 2010 including the highlight of his career in December 2012, where he made 3rd place at the World Cup in Nakiska Canada.
CEO of Mt Buller Mt Stirling Resort Management, John Huber, welcomes the news and is hopeful that the Mt Buller Athletes will make the Mt Buller community and the rest of Australia proud. "On behalf of the entire Mt Buller community, we congratulate the team heading to Sochi and look forward to seeing them compete for Australia in a range of events. It is fantastic to see such a large team representing snow sports in Australia and we will be watching the athletes compete with much pride. In particular, we are looking forward to seeing our local Mt Buller athletes compete, including Anton Grimus who is proud to call Mt Buller home. We wish each and every one of these talented sportspeople the very best of luck - we will be cheering them on loudly from Mt Buller!"
